Nothing has proven to be as elusive in the Fashion world as the ever so coveted Vogue cover has been to Kim Kardashian. But alas, it appears Kanye West’s tireless campaigning and style transformation of Kim has not only appeased the upper echelon of fashion in the form of the elite Paris crowd, but Anna Wintour as well. Kim Kardashian is photographed by the legendary Annie Leibovitz alongside fiancé Kanye West in the April edition of American Vogue. And of course this is sure to spark endless debates regarding how legitimate Kim’s high fashion credentials are, if any, and whether she deserves a Vogue cover at all, ahhh we do love fashion drama…
And in the spirit of celebrating #TheWorldsMostTalkedAboutCouple, here is a throw back to the incredible editorial KimYe did for L’Officiel Hommes Paris Spring 2013. Photographed by Nick Knight and styled by Raquel Franco, this totally remains one my favorite editorials of 2013.
The Met Gala is arguably one of the most revered events within the fashion industry. The Costume Institute Gala as it if formally known, is an annual ball that celebrates the annual opening of the Metropolitan Museum’s fashion exhibit at the Costume Institute, with the red carpet evening hosted by fashion bible Vogue magazine.
This year’s theme was ‘Punk: Chaos to Couture’, although Hollywood’s bourgeoisie failed rather dismally to stick to the theme whilst remaining tres chic. Nevertheless, Rooney Mara and Nicole Richie looked exquisite in Givenchy Couture and TopShop Couture respectfully. Anne Hathaway looked edgier than we’ve ever seen her in an breathtaking Valentino ensemble. Kirsten Stewart personified understated edge in her Stella McCartney oxblood number. Cara Delevingne also looked very chic in a studded, plunging, black Burberry dress, complimented by dramatic make up. Madonna remained true to her provocateur reputation in a cheeky Givenchy Haute Couture tartan jacket and fishnets which left her backside exposed. We love you Madge!
Ultimately most of the attendees completely failed to interpret the theme. Beyonce, Ashley Green, Amanda Seyfried, Uma Thurman and Linda Evangelist being amongst some of the worst offenders. However, the most notable of the evening being Miley Cyrus who attempted to stay true to the theme, but was more chaos than couture. The most notorious outfit of the evening belonged to Kim Kardashian. Previously banned from the event, Kim whore a floral Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci dress with matching gloves and shoes. Whilst the fashion world has given scathing criticism to Kim’s faux par, I’ve decided that I’m forgiving her terrible lapse in sanity. Kim Kardashian you have been offered absolution from your fashion sins.
